Interpol meet leads to traffic jams in C Delhi

NEW DELHI: Traffic was impacted in parts of Central Delhi on Tuesday due to arrangemen­ts put in place in the wake of the 90th Annual General Assembly of the Interpol at Pragati Maidan.

The Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory on Sunday, informing commuters to avoid Akbar Road, Safdarjung Road, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Subramania­m Bharti Marg, Mathura Road and Bhairon Marg between 1:15pm and 1:45pm due to restrictio­ns.

The Delhi Traffic Police noted that delegates for the assembly are staying in seven hotels across Central Delhi -The Lalit, The Imperial, Shangri La, Le Meridien, The Oberoi, Hyatt Regency and The Ashok -- and that various traffic measures have been put in place to ensure their smooth transporta­tion.

The traffic volume on Ashoka Road, Janpath, Firoz Shah Road, Barakhamba Road, Sikandra Road, Mathura Road,

Bhairon Road, Subramania­m Bharti Marg, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Marg, Kamal Ataturk Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Shantipath, Mahatma Gandhi Marg, Maharishi Raman Marg, Bhishma Pitamah Marg, Sardar Patel Marg, Dhaula Kuan flyover, Gurgaon Road, Mehram Nagar Tunnel, Aerocity and T3 Approach Road is being regulated, police said.

The official Twitter handle of the force on Tuesday posted, “Kindly avoid Akbar Road, C-hexagon, DDU Marg, W-point, Krishna Menon Marg, Tughlak Road, Janpath, Mann Singh Road & Maulana Azad Road from 1800 hrs to 1830 hrs due to special traffic arrangemen­ts.”

Traffic on Subramania­n Bharti Marg, Mathura Road and Bhairon Marg was impacted when Prime Minister Narendra Modi travelled to the venue. As the delegates travelled from their respective hotels to the venue and back, traffic remained slightly impacted on the respective routes.
