INDIAN JUNIOR SHOOTERS BEAT CHINA TO WIN 4 GOLD MEDALS

NEW DELHI: It was a fruitful day for India at the ISSF world championsh­ips in Cairo with the junior teams winning four gold medals, beating China in all the four events on Tuesday.

The air pistol team of Esha Singh, Sikha Narwal and Varsha Singh showed terrific form to defeat China in women’s junior team in the final. The Indian team beat the Chinese trio (Nan Zhao, Wang Siyu and Shen Yiyao) 16-6 in the gold medal match. India qualified for the final with a score of 855. Esha, who has been in top form in the tournament and won junior women 25m pistol event. scored 290 points in qualificat­ion to lead the team.

The air rifle women’s junior team also notched up gold, getting past China. Tilottama Sen, Nacy and Ramita beat the team of Liu Yafei, Ying Shen and Lanian Yang 16-2. India qualified for the final with a score of 941.5

In the men’s junior 10m air rifle, Divyansh Panwar, Sri Karthik Sabari Raj and Vidit Jain teamed up to overcome the challenge of China’a Linshu Du, Mingshuai Zhu and Haohan Lei 17-11 in the gold medal match.

The fourth gold came in 25m rapid fire pistol mixed team junior event with Payal Khatri Kuldeep and Adarsh going past Sixuan Feng and Yangpan Liu 13-9. The bronze medal match was also a India-china affair. Tejaswani and Sameer defeated Zizhao Luo and Shiwen Wang 16-10.

In 25m rapid fire pistol, India won a bronze. The team of Udhayveer Sidhu, Adarsh Singh and Sameer defeated Italy’s Michele Palella, Matteo Mastrovale­rio and Arrighi Luca 16-2.

India now stands second in the medal tally with nine gold, 3 silver and eight bronze medals. China lead the standings with 37 medals (18-12-7).
