CHANDIGARH: The Haryana cabinet on Wednesday approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Metro link between Rezangla Chowk in Gurugram and Dwarka Sector 21, an official spokesperson said.

Citing the report, the spokesperson said the total length of the Metro link -- the second between Delhi and Gurugram --0 will be 8.4 kilometres. Of the total length, 4 km will be from Palam Vihar to Sector 111 in Gurugram, and the remaining 4.40 km will be from Sector 111 to Sector 21, Dwarka. The route will have seven stations, he added.

The cabinet also approved the gross project cost along with the Haryana government’s share of ₹1,541 crore. The government also cleared the nomination of the Administrative Secretary, Town and Country Planning Department, as the nodal officer for signing of agreements and other related documents for the implementation of the project, the official spokesperson said.

The new Metro link will have interchange facility at IECC station for Airport Express Metro Corridor, and at Dwarka Sector 21 with the Metro’s Blue Line.

These linkages will enhance connectivity in the National Capital Region (NCR). This will also provide hassle-free transportation facility to the passengers travelling to Delhi International Airport with a check-in at Dwarka Sector 21 Metro station, the spokesperson added.

In May 2019, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar had issued directions that feasibility of a separate Metro extension connecting Dwarka and Palam Vihar should be assessed, after which the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) asked Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) to conduct a techno-feasibility study of the route and submit a detailed report.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (DMRC) had prepared the DPR of this project and recommended extension of Blue line from Sector-21 in Dwarka to Iffco Chowk in Gurugram in 2015 but the project could not be executed due to a host of reasons, which included route alignment, mode of building and operation among others.
