CV Ananda Bose to be new Bengal guv

CV Ananda Bose was on Thursday appointed the Governor of West Bengal, according to a communique from the Rashtrapat­i Bhavan. His appointmen­t will take effect on the date he assumes charge of his office, it said. “The President of India is pleased to appoint Dr. C V Ananda Bose as regular Governor of West Bengal,” the communique said. Manipur governor La Ganesan had been holding the additional charge of West Bengal since July after the former Governor, Jagdeep Dhankhar, quit the post and became India’s vice president. Dr. CV Ananda Bose is a 1977-batch former officer of the Indian Administra­tive Services who has served in the rank of secretary of government of India, chief secretary to state government­s, and university vice-chancellor. Bose was chairman of a working group that prepared the developmen­t agenda for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. His concept of “affordable housing for all” was adopted by the government.

NEW DELHI: Retired bureaucrat C V Ananda Bose was on Thursday appointed as the governor of West Bengal, a communique from the Rashtrapat­i Bhavan said. Manipur governor La Ganesan has been holding the additional charge of the state since July after Jagdeep Dhankhar got elected as Vice-president of India.

“The President of India is pleased to appoint Dr CV Ananda Bose as regular Governor of West Bengal,” the statement said.

His “appointmen­t will take effect from the date he assumes charge of his office”, it added.

Bose, (71), is a 1977 Indian Administra­tive Service officer from Kerala cadre. He hails from Changanass­ery in Kottayam district.

In the past, he has served as district collector, chief secretary, secretary at the Centre and university vice-chancellor.

He joined the Bharatiya Janata

Party in 2018 and has held several advisory positions since then. He was currently serving as an adviser to the Meghalaya government. In 2020, the BJP had asked him to prepare a report on the state of affairs of the party unit in Kerala.

Bose was also a member of the high-power committee tasked to inventory treasure of the Sree Padmanabha Swami temple. Also an author, Bose has written 32 books in English, Malayalam and Hindi.

Prior to his election as Vicepresid­ent, Dhankhar was the governor of West Bengal for nearly three years in which he had several run-ins with the Mamata Banerjee government.
