NAVLAKHA WALKS OUT OF PRISON TO MOVE INTO HOUSE ARREST

NAVI MUMBAI: Civil rights activist and Bhima Koregaon accused Gautam Navlakha was released from prison on Saturday evening, and taken to the office-cum-library building of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Navi Mumbai’s Belapur.

The 70-year-old will stay under house arrest at the premises for a month. His release from Taloja jail two years after his arrest came after the Supreme Court on November 10 granted his plea seeking house arrest on medical grounds.

On Friday, the top court dismissed the National Investigat­ion Agency’s applicatio­n seeking recall of the order directing Navlakha’s house arrest. The court gave NIA 24 hours to give effect to its November 10 order after installing additional measures for securing the Belapur premises where Navlakha will stay with is 71-year-old partner.

Navlakha walked out of jail at around 6pm after furnishing a surety of ₹2 lakh.
