NEW DELHI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Indian history was written by Leftists, who “distorted it”. In an interview to HT, the BJP leader weighed in on the controvers­y about Hindutva ideologue Veer Savarkar, saying, “The real story is that his petition to the British was part of a strategic and tactical move on his part to come out... He knew he couldn’t waste his life in jail and had to propagate Hindutva and “Desh Bhakti”.”
