NEW DELHI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Indian history was written by Leftists, who “distorted it”. In an interview to HT, the BJP leader weighed in on the controversy about Hindutva ideologue Veer Savarkar, saying, “The real story is that his petition to the British was part of a strategic and tactical move on his part to come out... He knew he couldn’t waste his life in jail and had to propagate Hindutva and “Desh Bhakti”.”
