RETD BSF MAN HELD OVER K’TAKA ROBBERY: POLICE

A 55-year-old man who retired from the Border Security Force (BSF) was arrested in Ghaziabad on Friday by the Karnataka Police in connection with a robbery on November 9 at an assistant subinspect­or’s home in Chikkaball­apur district.

The accused, identified as Veerendra Kumar Thakur, who took voluntary retirement in 2002 from BSF, trained his foster son Haider (25) to break into homes, police said.

According to Chikkaball­apur superinten­dent of police, BL Nagesh, the gang headed by Haider entered the ASI’S residence, shot at him and his son, tied up his family members and left with 800 grams of jewellery and ₹15 lakh cash.

“After the crime, the gang fled to Andhra Pradesh and then came to Uttar Pradesh,” Nagesh said.
