ADITYANATH AND KEJRIWAL TRADE BARBS AS GUJ POLL BATTLE HEATS UP

- Press Trust of India

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal traded barbs on Saturday in the run-up to the high-stakes Gujarat elections.

Speaking at an election rally in the poll-bound state’s Somnath, Adityanath dubbed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener a “buffoon”, and accused him of supporting terrorism and corruption.

“A ‘namoona’ (buffoon) from Aam Aadmi Party who is visiting Gujarat nowadays is a true wellwisher of terrorism. He had also opposed the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya. He had sought proof from our brave soldiers when the Indian Army carried out a surgical strike in Pakistan,” said Adityanath.

“When the Pakistan government itself was admitting that the strike had broken their back, AAP kept on asking for evidence. Support for terrorism and corruption is in their genes,” the UP CM said.

Hitting back at Adityanath, Kejriwal said that the BJP and its leaders stood for hooliganism and dirty politics.

Tweeting a video of Adityanath attacking him, Kejriwal said; “If you want dirty abuses, hooliganism, corruption, dirty politics, then vote for them [BJP]. If you want schools, hospitals, electricity, water, roads then vote for us.” Kejriwal also said that his party will record a “historic victory” in the upcoming Gujarat polls and become a “national” political party.

Voting is scheduled to take place in Gujarat in two-phases — December 1 and 5 — and the results will be declared on December 8.
