Man held for raping 9-yr-old in G Noida

NOIDA: A man was arrested on Monday on charges of raping the nine-year-old daughter of his friend in a Greater Noida West society, police said.

According to the complaint given to the police, the father had dropped his daughter and her four-year-old younger brother at the house of the suspect, who was the father’s friend, on Sunday afternoon, while he went to attend to some work for a few hours.

Police said the suspect, identified as Dinesh Kumar Sharma, 57, of Mirzapur district in Uttar Pradesh, lives in Ecovillage -3 society in Greater Noida West with his wife.

Police said they received a complaint late Sunday night from the father. Following the complaint, a case was registered under section 376 AB (Whoever, commits rape on a woman under twelve years of age) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

“The complainant dropped both his children at Sharma’s house around 2pm. Early evening, there was only Sharma’s wife at home. He told his wife that he was taking both kids to the society club for playing. There, he forced himself on the girl. We have also recovered camera footage from the club house and the entire incident was recorded,” Anil Kumar Rajput, station house officer of Bisrakh police station said.

Sharma was arrested from the Ajnara roundabout on Monday morning. He and the minor girl’s father have been friends for years, police said, adding that further investigations are underway.

The suspect was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
