GHAZIABAD: The Ghaziabad police are on the lookout for unidentified suspects who ran over two policemen near the MMG District Hospital in the wee hours of Monday.

The suspects were driving an SUV and two policemen sustained severe injuries in the incident, police added.

The two policemen, identified as Rohit Kumar and Naresh Kumar, were on night patrol duty on a police bike.

Around 2am, several men in an SUV were speeding and their vehicle hit the patrol bike.

“The two policemen sustained severe injuries as a result and the bike also suffered damages. They were rushed to MMG District Hospital. Later, Rohit was referred to a higher centre for treatment”, said Anshu Jain, circle officer (city 1).

The two policemen were patrolling the GT Road under the jurisdiction of Kotwali police station limits, police added. “We are checking CCTV footage and an FIR will soon be registered by the police,” CO Jain said.

Sources in Ghaziabad police said that the SUV was being driven at a high speed and the men inside were possibly in an inebriated state.
