3 MEGHALAYA MLAS RESIGN, SET TO JOIN BJP
SHILLONG: Two MLAS of the ruling National People’s Party in Meghalaya and one from the Opposition Trinamool Congress resigned from the Assembly on Monday, people familiar with the matter said.
The three, who also quit the membership of respective parties, announced that they will soon join the Bharatiya Janata Party , an ally in the Npp-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance.
Assembly commissioner and secretary Andrew Simons said NPP legislators, Ferlin Sangma and Benedic Marak, and TMC’S HM Shangpliang submitted their resignations to speaker Metbah Lyngdoh. “We have resigned today to join the BJP. There is a need to work hand-in-hand with Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the development of the state,” Shangpliang said.
