3 MEGHALAYA MLAS RESIGN, SET TO JOIN BJP

SHILLONG: Two MLAS of the ruling National People’s Party in Meghalaya and one from the Opposition Trinamool Congress resigned from the Assembly on Monday, people familiar with the matter said.

The three, who also quit the membership of respective parties, announced that they will soon join the Bharatiya Janata Party , an ally in the Npp-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance.

Assembly commission­er and secretary Andrew Simons said NPP legislator­s, Ferlin Sangma and Benedic Marak, and TMC’S HM Shangplian­g submitted their resignatio­ns to speaker Metbah Lyngdoh. “We have resigned today to join the BJP. There is a need to work hand-in-hand with Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the developmen­t of the state,” Shangplian­g said.
