IFFI not only entertained, but also educated us, says Thakur
The 53rd edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) concluded on Monday with an award ceremony where the coveted Golden Peacock Award was given to Spanish film Tengo sueños eléctricos (I have electric dreams).
The Indian Film Personality of the Year Award for 2022 was conferred on veteran Telugu and Hindi film actor and Padma Bhushan awardee Chiranjeevi.
The awards were handed out in the presence of Union minister of information and broadcasting (I&B) Anurag Thakur, Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant, Union minister of state for I&B L Murugan, and a host of dignitaries, actors and other members from the film fraternity.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Thakur said: “IFFI not only entertained, but also educated us. IFFI opened up the nuanced world of cinema for audiences across the region, both young and old, new and festival veterans... It remains my strong commitment to give a strong emphasis and provide a platform to regional cinema. Because regional is no longer regional, it has gone national to international.”
Over the last eight days the festival curated screenings of 282 films, that is nearly 35,000 minutes of viewing time, featured 183 international and 97 Indian films in 65 and 15 Indian languages from 78 countries worldwide.
