DU students hurt after ABVP, Left groups clash

-

Several Delhi University students were injured in a clash between several Left-affiliated student groups and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in the north campus on Thursday afternoon, police said.

“A brawl broke out between two groups of around 10 students from ABVP and Bhagat Singh Chhatra Ekta Manch (BSCEM) group near Patel Chest. We have received seven medico-legal cases (MLC), five from the Left group and two from ABVP,” said DCP (north) Sagar Singh Kalsi.

Akshit Dahiya, ABVP Delhi state secretary, claimed that “Leftist anti-social elements” had assaulted ABVP workers, while Sangeeta Geet, BSCEM member, claimed that ABVP members attacked them during a protest rally in favour of Saibaba.

Meanwhile, some buildings in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) were allegedly defaced on Wednesday night with slogans against the Brahmin community. Photos of the purported defacement were shared on social media by the ABVP and the JNU Teachers Forum (JNUTF).

In a statement, the JNU administration said vice-chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit has taken note of the incident, and that a panel will look into the matter.htc
