CM: MP TO FORM PANEL TO HELP IMPLEMENT UCC
Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday said that a committee will be formed to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state.
Madhya Pradesh will be the fourth Bharatiya Janata Partyruled state to set up a committee on the matter after Gujarat, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
At a rally in Barwani, the CM said the UCC will help save tribal women from being lured for land. “There are people who grab tribal land by marrying a tribal girl... I am in favour of implementing the UCC in the country. Why should there be two laws in one country?”
Congress MLA Kunal Chaudhary, however, said: “The BJP is making such announcements to divert attention from real issues like inflation, unemployment.”
