NOIDA: A 24-year-old woman riding a two-wheeler was killed after a speeding luxury car with a VIP registration number rammed her vehicle near Sector 96 in Noida on Sunday morning, police said.

The driver of the luxury car, identified as Samuel Andrew Pyster (31), a resident of Sector 77 in Faridabad, has been arrested, police said.

Police said the victim, identified as Deepika Tripathi, was on her way to office in Supertech E-square, while the suspect in the luxury car was headed to a cafe for breakfast along with a friend.

The incident took place when the speeding car tried to overtake another vehicle and collided the victim’s scooter in the process.

“We received a call around 10am on Sunday, following which a team from the Sector 39 police station was rushed to the spot. The victim was taken to Yatharth hospital in Sector 110, while Pyster was taken into custody and his Jaguar was seized. The co-passenger, Ishan, helped police to take the victim to the hospital,” said Rajneesh Verma, assistant commissioner of police, Noida.

“The driver was speeding and may have been careless. Tripathi was declared dead on arrival by hospital officials,” ACP Verma said.

ACP Verma said Tripathi was a resident of Sector 143 and worked as a receptionist at a real estate company, while Pyster is a manager at a multinational firm. A complaint by the deceased’s brother, who works as a security guard at a high-rise in Noida, was filed at the Sector 39 police station on Sunday evening. He said that his sister left their residence at around 9:30am and the accident took place just outside her office.

Based on the complaint, a case under Section 279 (rash driving), 304A (causing death by negligence) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the driver. The post mortem of the victim has been conducted and the body was handed over to her family members on Monday, police said.

Police added that Lalit Trivedi, the brother-in-law of the deceased, who lives in Lucknow was her emergency contact and the first person in her family who was informed about the incident when she was being taken to the hospital.
