DNA report on missing IES officer may take 3-6 mnths
LUCKNOW: The family of Indian Engineering Service (IES) officer Subhan Ali, who is missing since June 22, 2020, may have to wait for another three-six months before the DNA report makes it clear whether an unidentified body handed over by Pakistan is of their son. Subhan Ali, a native of UP’s Balrampur district, had been working with Border Roads Organisation in Ladakh area but has been untraceable after a road accident last year.
In a letter to defence minister Rajnath Singh on July 10, 2020, BSP MP from Amroha Kunwar Danish Ali requested the authorities to expedite the search for Subhan Ali. In a letter to BSP MP on February 11, the defence minister replied a Gypsy driven by Palwinder Singh, with Subhan Ali in it, fell into a deep gorge into the fast-flowing River Drass on the Zozila- Kargil- Leh road on June 22 last year. Palwinder Singh’s body was recovered from the river but Subhan remained untraceable. The river flows into Pakistan. The army headquarters contacted their counterparts in Pakistan to seek assistance. Pakistan officials said an unidentified body had been recovered from the River Shingo on June 27. They handed over the DNA sample of the body to the Kargil police on August 22. The DNA samples of Ali’s parents were collected on October 28 and forwarded to FSL Chandigarh for matching, he said. Further action will be taken on the receipt of the report from the laboratory, Singh said.
