KANPUR: Amid significant surge of Covid-19 cases, the data released by the GSVM Medical College showcase that young people were falling prey to virus and infection rate apparently has gone down in the elderly.

The RTPCR report released has shown that of the total infection, 65% of them were young people aged between 18 and 40 years.

The report has 400 cases mentioned and of these 260 were infected in the 18-40 age group.

Experts analyzing the second wave of Covid-19 believe the spread was on the lines of Europe.

Pandemic expert Dr Manoj Kumar said this trend was not in the first two weeks of the second wave.

As the situation turns worse, the infection rate is shooting up in the young people. Chief medical officer Dr Anil Mishra cautioned the younger lot to be wary and do not let their guard down under any circumstances.

“Their negligence is the reason behind such large number young people contracting the virus,” he said.

LLR hospital, the biggest Covid-19 health facility in city, is getting 8% younger people with no symptoms at all.

Associate professor at medical college Dr Yashwant Rao said the only problem they have is of low oxygen levels. “They are not co-morbid nor have any other issues thus they have a better chance of recovery. Still, they should remain indoors to help break this chain.”

Centres for Disease Control and Prevent (CDC) report released recently, he said, also states that 7 to 15% people in 18-40 age group could need hospitalization.

According to RTPCR report, infection rate in the people of 46 to 59 years age group was 13.25 per cent. While it is 11% among those in 60 years bracket, some 10.50% infected were less than 18 years of age.

CMO DR ANIL MISHRA CAUTIONED THE YOUNGER LOT TO BE WARY AND DO NOT LET THEIR GUARD DOWN UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
