On the face of it, Sam Curran is in the England side for the all-round package that he offers. He tends to hit the ball a long way, adding to the batting depth that is such an integral part of the England way. But it was his astute bowling that stood out throughout the tournament. He took 13 wickets in six matches, including 3/12 in the final. His wicket of opener Mohammad Rizwan was particular­ly important in restrictin­g Pakistan to a below-par total.

He entertaine­d and enthralled whenever he batted, especially against Zimbabwe where his shots behind the wicket made your jaw drop.

NETHERLAND­S BEAT SA

In a tournament replete with upsets, Netherland­s getting past South Africa on the final day of the Super 12 stage topped them all. Their shock 13-run win meant South Africa were ousted from the World Cup before the knockout stage, allowing Pakistan to sneak into the semis

WEST INDIES EXIT EARLY

The West Indians have been at the forefront of T20 cricket over the past decade with two World Cup titles, but they face an urgent need to rediscover their game. That was apparent from their tame displays in Australia, bowing out even before the Super 12s after shock defeats to Scotland and Ireland.
