Man accused of killing daughter breaks down while lighting her pyre

AGRA : The man who killed his daughter for marrying against his wishes, broke down while lighting her funeral pyre in Mathura on Monday evening. The mother of the deceased, who is also an accused in the murder, was present during cremation before being sent to Mathura jail.

To recall, a woman’s body was found in a suitcase near the Yamuna Expressway last week. Mathura police had ascertaine­d its identity as that of Ayushi Yadav (22) and said she was the victim of an alleged hate crime committed by her parents.

The cremation of Ayushi Yadav (22) took place in Yamuna Par Laxmi Nagar area of Mathura city on Monday evening, after a press conference in which accused parents Nitesh Yadav and Brajbala Yadav were presented before the media for the suspected case of honour killing.

The accused father, who shot his daughter twice in the chest and head on November 17 at his residence in Badarpur town of Delhi, broke into tears when he was brought by Mathura police for cremation.

Nitish Yadav lit the pyre as younger brother of Ayushi chose to stay away from the funeral but Brajbala was present. Nitish had shot Ayushi with his licensed revolver and Brajbala allegedly helped him in disposing of the alongside Yamuna Express Way next day.

The body was recovered on November 18 but being unidentifi­ed, was not sent for post mortem or cremation, said SP (Rural) Mathura Trigun Bisan. As per norms, Mathura police waited for 72 hours for identifica­tion and it was identified as that of Ayushi Yadav on Sunday by her parents and cremated on Monday after post mortem examinatio­n.

After the cremation, the accused mother and father were sent to Mathura District Jail for judicial custody after being presented in court, informed SP (Rural), Mathura.

According to police, Ayushi married Chhatrasal (22), a resident of Bharatpur (Rajasthan), against the wishes of her parents. Ayushi was a thirdyear BCA student. She was pursuing her graduation from an institute in Janakpuri area of Delhi.
