LUCKNOW: The programme of the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra of the Congress, initially scheduled to enter Uttar Pradesh on December 24, is likely to be tweaked a bit and take a detour to possibly spend more time in Uttar Pradesh.

“We hope the Bharat Jodo Yatra will enter Uttar Pradesh somewhere near the Noida/ Ghaziabad area from New Delhi. The Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) has proposed a nearly 16-day route from Mathura to Saharanpur. We are aware that the state may not get 16 days. The route though is still being given a final shape. We hope the yatra will cover some west UP districts in a week,” a Congress functionary said.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra’s website indicates that the yatra will reach the state from near Bulandshahr on December 24.

“The yatra may have a break in the New Year and enter the state only in the first week of January. Congress general secretary (incharge UP) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who is reaching Madhya Pradesh to join Rahul Gandhi on the yatra there, is likely to accompany her brother in U.P. as well in the coming weeks,” the functionary said.

A contingent of U.P. Congress leaders is accompanying Rahul Gandhi on his nearly 3570 km yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. The yatra began in Kanyakumari on September 7. “We are holding meetings regularly to work out and propose a new route for the yatra. We hope the route for U.P. will be approved by next month,” a senior party leader said.

The party is ready to consider demands for a possible change in the route and timing of the yatra in accordance with the demand of the respective state units.
