Agra police recover kidnapped child within 24 hrs, accused held

AGRA: The Agra police on Wednesday recovered the twoand-half-year-old child, kidnapped from the Shahganj area of Agra on Tuesday. The main accused has been arrested, while two others have been detained for questionin­g as they were planning to sell the boy child, informed Nachiketa Jha, the inspector general (IG), Agra range.

The accused has been identified as Mausim Usmani, a constructi­on site worker residing at the house of his maternal uncle in the Shahganj area of the Agra district. Additional­ly, the police are investigat­ing Usmani’s connection to the gang to whom he planned to sell child, he added.

“Mayank was kidnapped from his house in the Doretha area within the limits of Shahganj police station in Agra city on Tuesday but was recovered within 24 hours from the Vrindavan area on Wednesday night. Besides the kidnapper Mausim Usmani was also arrested,” said IG Jha, who rewarded the police team with ₹25,000.

“A case was registered under section 363 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Shahganj police station after the uncle of the kidnapped child lodged a complaint on Tuesday,” informed IG Agra Range.

“The accused planned the kidnapping while returning from work on Tuesday when he found the child roaming alone. The boy was taken away by the accused who purchased toffee for the child and left for Mathura by bus,” informed SSP Agra Prabhakar Chaudhary.
