MEERUT: Bulandshahr police on Friday arrested a man who claimed to be a Muslim and justified the brutal murder of Shraddha Walkar allegedly by her live-in partner Aaftab Poonawala in Delhi in a video that went viral some days ago, police said.

Senior superintendent of police, Bulandshahr, Shlok Kumar said the arrested man, identified as Vikas Kumar, 25, of Sikandrabad town in the district, pretended to be one Rashid Khan in the video which went viral. He said a case had been registered against Vikas and during investigation, it came to fore that he had already been booked in five cases under the Arms Act and for theft in Bulandshahr and Noida. “He worked as a labourer in a factory under the fake name of Rashid Khan,” the SSP said and added that people tipped-off the police about him. Vikas had justified Aftab Poonawala’s actions, saying such things happened in a fit of rage.

After his arrest, he said he didn’t know that his words would have such a serious consequence, otherwise he wouldn’t have done it. “I fear I will be killed, either here or in prison,” he said on being asked if he regretted his action. Earlier, activists of NGO Rashtra Shakti Foundation met SSP Shlok Kumar after the video of Vikas went viral and demanded his arrest.
