AMU celebrates Constitution Day
ALIGARHň :ň Symposia, lectures and other events combined with the reading of the Preamble to the Constitution of India were held across departments in Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) to celebrate the ‘Constitution Day’ with fervour and gaiety, commemorating the adoption of the Constitution as ‘Jan Bhagidari’. In a symposium prof Arshi Khan, prof Rachana Kaushal, prof M Mohibul, prof Aftab Alam, Dr Irfanul Haq and Parvez Alam from the department of political science spoke on different topics.
Presiding over the programme, Prof Iqbalur Rehman, chairperson, department of political science said that the constitution speaks about relations between its people and the state. The proceedings were conducted by Dr Firdaus Ahmad Batt.
In a programme at the department of philosophy, Dr Aquil Ahmad (Chairperson) delineated the special features and uniqueness of the Indian Constitution. Zaid A Siddiqui and Dr Jan Mohammad Lone also participated in the event.
The faculty members, students and staff of the department of linguistics and department of botany took the pledge on the occasion of “Samvidhan Diwas”. The department of zoology organised a presentation on the historical background of the Indian Constitution. Besides, prof Mohammad Afzal, dean, faculty of life sciences presented a copy of the Indian Constitution to Prof Mukhtar Ahmad Khan, Chairperson of the Department.
AMU schools also organised special programmes on Constitution Day. The students also participated in an online quiz on the topic ‘The Mother of Democracy’.
