TEACHER USES DRILL MACHINE ON HAND OF STUDENT AT KANPUR SCHOOL

-

KANPUR: A teacher in a government-run school in Kanpur’s Prem Nagar allegedly drilled the hand of an 11-year-old for having forgotten the multiplication tables of two, officials said.

The teacher, who used the drill machine of a carpenter engaged for maintenance work at the school, has been absconding since the incident took place on Friday.

The police, however, are yet to file a first information report (FIR).

Deputy commissioner of police (central) Ravindra Kumar said the police will lodge a case “if a complaint is filed”.

“The teacher (name withheld) asked me to recite the ‘Table of 2’. As I failed to do so, he drilled my hand. A fellow student standing beside me unplugged the drill immediately,” ANI quoted the student as saying.

Other teachers at the school, however, said the accused, Anuj Kumar, was only trying to scare the student and the drill touched his hand, causing an injury.

Basic Shiksha Adhikari Surjit Singh said an inquiry panel has been formed to look into the incident and the teacher has been removed.

“Action will be taken on the basis of the inquiry report,” he said.
