Says DJ Avicii, ahead of his concert in the city
Set to perform in the city today, popular EDM DJ Avicii says that he enjoys the job but not the attention that comes with it
At 24, Avicii is ruling every possible music chart. How many DJs can possibly boast of a Grammy nomination, collaborations with veteran artistes and a steadily rising global ranking (he is now world number 3), all in a short career span of five years?
The Swedish DJ might have travelled around the world, playing to packed houses, but he considers India to be one of his preferred locations. He will perform tonight in the city at the Sunburn Arena concert. “The audiences are great, and I want to perform in India more often. It’s always been one of those dream destinations for me,” he says, adding, “The EDM music scene in India is ever burgeoning and it is fascinating to see the audience open to various genres of music. It’s a very spiritual place and that works well with the positivity of the dance music culture.”
Being one of the most sought after DJs in the world must also need him to tackle pressures of several kinds. What are the biggest challenges he has faced in his career? “Travelling. Beyond that, I would say the kind of attention I get. I’ve never liked being recognised on the streets. I love DJing, but at the same time, I hate being in the spotlight,” says Avicii, who is currently working with artistes like Nile, Chris Martin and Wyclef Jean, among others.
