I feel if a small step from our end can make a difference, then why not? This is our way

of keeping India clean.

— Richa Chadda, actor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched his cleanliness drive — Swachh Bharat Abhiyan — on October 2, and since then, the campaign has garnered attention from all quarters. In this regard, Bollywood hasn’t been far behind as well, with actors like Hrithik Roshan and Salman Khan, among others, lending their support. Now, Richa Chadda is the latest celebrity to promote the initiative, but in her own way.

Richa, who is currently shooting in Benares for an Anurag Kashyap production, decided to make a conscious effort to keep the film set clean. “Richa was mesmerised by the beauty of the ghats in Benares. So, she decided to support the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan by making sure the place isn’t littered,” says a source close to the actor.

According to the insider, Richa also instructed the cast and crew of the film to not use any plastic products on the sets, including bags, cups or plates. She even made sure that the area where they were shooting was properly cleaned every day after they packed up.

When contacted, the actor confirmed the news. “It (Swachh Bharat Abhiyan) is a very positive campaign. Although we consider the Ganges a holy river, we don’t do much to protect it as all the rubbish from the ghats finds its way into the river. I feel if a small step from our end can make a difference, then why not? This is our way of keeping India clean,” says Richa.
