Indian archers to attend JLaw’s London premiere
The poster girls of Indian women’s archery — Deepika Kumari, L Bombayla Devi and Laxmirani Majhi — have been invited to London to attend the premiere of Hollywood actor Jennifer Lawrence’s upcoming film, where she plays the role of an archer.
The team will join archers from other parts of the world at the premiere on November 19. “As Lawrence is playing an archer in the film (adapted from The Hunger Games novels), the makers decided to invite a few people who actually play the sport, along with the cast and crew of the film for the premiere,” says an insider from the production house that will be distributing the film in India. He adds, “When the Indian distributors of the film approached the makers with the list of people they would like to send for the event, the makers readily approved it.” Now, the Indian distributors are in the process of completing all the formalities for the London trip. When contacted, Deepak Sharma, chief operating officer of the production house, confirmed the development and said, “We are proud to have the opportunity to send the members of our women’s archery team for the premiere... Archery is crucial to the film and this idea comes in tandem with that. This would be a great opportunity for us to represent Indian talent on an international platform.”
