Going alcohol-free
Before buying a skincare product, do you check the list of ingredients? With winter around the corner, it is imperative that one chooses cosmetics that do not contain alcohol. The primary reason for this is that alcohol can dry out and irritate your skin considerably, and that worsens during the dry winter months.
One of the main disadvantages of alcohol in cosmetics is that it evaporates quickly, stripping the skin of moisture, lipids and proteins. It also dissolves the natural oil on the surface of the skin, that acts as a barrier and prevents substances penetrating it and keeps the skin free from unwanted toxins. Depletion of natural oil in turn causes frequent irritation and redness. But the biggest reason for avoiding alcoholbased skincare products should be the fact that alcohol makes the precursors for vitamin A such as beta-carotene and retinol unable to convert into vitamin A acid. This makes the skin deficient in skin rejuvenators, thus leading to premature skin-ageing.
One of the alcohol-based products that we use every day on our skin are deodorants but we can rreplace them with some aalcohol-free ones such as NIVEA Whitening Sensitive Deodorant which contains zero per cent alcohol and is particularly mild on the skin. It contains liquorice extracts, which helps in reducing irritation as well as redness, and itching in the armpit when the deo is sprayed. Regular use could help you get rid of dark patches and discoloured underarms.
