TAKEN FOR A RIDE
Mumbai’s traffic snarls don’t spare anyone; even Bollywood actors have had to ditch their cars and rely on public transport occasionally to get to places on time
Bollywood actors may not be known for their punctuality, but many have been trying to change that perception of late. In order to reach shoots or events on time, some have even ditched the comfort of their cars to use several means of public transport, or even hitch a ride with a stranger, to reach their destination quickly. Here are some recent instances.
Ferry ride
Varun Dhawan, who is currently shooting for director Rohit Shetty’s next, was recently running late for a shoot in Madh Island. Instead of travelling by car, and dealing with traffic, he used a ferry to reach the set on time.
Metro journey
Aditi Rao Hydari recently took the busy road from her home in Andheri (W) to a venue in Andheri (E), where she was to attend an event. After braving the traffic for a while, she decided to get her driver to drop her to the nearest Metro station. “I hate being late, so I didn’t think twice before taking the train. Also it was fun. I don’t get a chance to do this often,” she said.
Train ticket
To make an appearance on TV comedian Kapil Sharma’s show to promote NH10, Neil Bhoopalam needed to travel from Churchgate to the set in Goregaon. Since the local train is possibly the quickest way to travel within Mumbai, the actor decided to hop on to one onto save time. He even showed off his ticket on the show.
Hitch-hiking
Sophie Choudry was stuck in traffic in Worli for nearly two hours on her way to designer Manish Malhotra’s show recently. Frustrated, her hairstylist, Harry Rajput, got out of the car and managed to convince a stranger to lend them his bike. The two of them reached the venue quickly, while the biker followed them in Sophie’s car. Sophie told us, “I can’t believe Harry did that, and I can’t believe that guy gave us his bike. This would have never happened in any other city.”
Power walk
Amitabh Bachchan recently found himself stuck in traffic only a short distance from a venue he was to reach. The veteran actor simply got out of his car and started walking towards it, surrounded by his security guards.
