Reality shows don’t help: Harshit Saxena
The young composer-singer says such platforms don’t make the Bollywood journey any easier; also talks about the competition in the industry
He started out as a participant in a singing reality TV show about eight years ago. Post that, like most aspirants, Harshit Saxena, too, followed his Bollywood dreams. “Contrary to the popular belief, reality shows don’t help your B-Town career. After the show got over, I didn’t know where to go and what to do. I have slept inside shops because I didn’t have a place to stay in Mumbai. That phase taught me a lot,” says Harshit, whose latest song, ‘Meet me daily baby’ from Welcome Back was a hit.
Talking about the competition that exists in B-Town, he says, “There are a string of singers and composers nowadays. There is so much competition that one song is given to about 15 singers and composers to work on. So, the greatest aim one should have is to sustain in the industry. I aspire to become an established composer in the years to come. I just want to make good music.”
The singer, whose greatest hit was the song, ‘Haal-e-dil’, from Murder 2 (2012), is also working on an album, besides a few Bollywood projects. “My first album will have about six songs, and the videos for them have also been shot. It’s likely to release in January next year. ‘Paas aao na zara’ is the title track,” says Harshit, who idolises late composer Aadesh Srivastava and producer Mukesh Bhatt.
Ask him if he also wants to attain the kind of stature that Arijit Singh, who was also a reality show participant about a decade ago, has achieved, and Harshit says, “Arijit is a close friend, and I know the kind of struggle he has gone through to reach where he is today. He has assisted composers for the longest time. After such a long struggle, he gained recognition only about a couple of years ago.”
After a pause in her music career, Kelly Rowland has recently released a new song on her SoundCloud page, titled ‘Dumb’. The solo artiste has been off the scene for the past couple of years, but now it seems like Rowland is returning to the world of music. Reportedly, she has been working on her fifth studio album this year, and it is presumed that ‘Dumb’ will feature on the track list.
