TV actor Barkha Bisht finds it “strange” that she’s called “hot” and “sexy” as she’s only played simple roles on the small screen so far.
Barkha Bisht reveals that makers do not approach her for certain roles because they feel she is “too hot”
TV actor Barkha Bisht has played the girl next door in most of her shows, including Pyaar Ke Do Naam and Parvarrish. Therefore, she finds it “strange” that tags like ‘sexy’ and ‘hot’ are attached to her. “I have played the role of a simple girl for the past 11 years. Yet, these tags are attached to me. I don’t know why,” she says.
As a result, she reveals that many makers do not approach her for certain roles. “They think I am too hot for the part. Maybe my off-screen image affects my on-screen one. It is sad that people relate to me in this way. It is a challenge to break this image,” says Barkha.
Being an army officer’s daughter, Barkha has led a “protected life”. Ask her if it was difficult for her to adapt to the ways of the entertainment industry, and she says, “It was tough. But I am rebellious. Since I led such a protected life, something in me wanted to defy it. I don’t regret being here [in the television industry].”
DRAWING THE LINE
In the recent past, several TV shows like Itna Karo Na Mujhe Pyaar and Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke featured intimate scenes. But Barkha has no interest in such content. She feels television is getting bolder than she “would like it to be”. “I entered the industry knowing that there are certain things I will not do. Reaching extreme levels of intimacy is one of these things,” she says. Does this decision have anything to do with her husband, Indraneil Sengupta? “I have been hesitant from the beginning, even when I was not married,” she says.
