‘I’M A DEVOTEE OF SHAH RUKH’

Karan Patel talks about why he adores the superstar; adds he wants to get into films

Karan Patel is a selfproclaimed Shah Rukh Khan (right) fan. The popular actor is called ‘TV’s SRK’ by his fans and he couldn’t be happier with the title. “It makes me feel proud. If I had wings, I would fly. I am a devotee of Shah Rukh Khan. He is God for me. Not only because, he is the world’s biggest movie star but because he was a man who came from nowhere and did TV and today, is the most sought after superstar. He featured in the song ‘Chaand taare tod laun’ from Yes Boss (1997) and made it into a reality. The song encompasses Shah Rukh’s life. He has reached the pinnacle not just due to luck or chance but hard work and dedication. I do believe that luck plays a part in the entertainment industry. If I

am hard working and dedicated, I need that one chance to showcase my talent,” he says.

Ask Karan if he has a game plan to do films and he says he hopes his work on TV is noticed by the right people. He hasn’t reached out to anyone. “People must have considered me for films but I think many people have the opinion that, if a person is doing a daily soap seven days a week, how would he make time to do a film. Today, work schedules are well managed and it isn’t difficult to juggle both mediums. Ram (Kapoor) and Ronit da (Roy) are doing it. Ekta (Kapoor, producer) is a dear friend and understanding, so tomorrow if I get a film and tell her to adjust schedules, she will understand,” he says.

The actor, who has been the face of a popular show, is enjoying his current success on television but also aspires to do movies soon. He has been working out and has acquired a fitter physique in preparation for films. “Inshallah, I hope to make a move to the big screen soon. And tomorrow, when I get an opportunity, I don’t want to miss out on anything, because I didn’t look a certain way or fit the part. In the entertainment industry, heroes need to look good and presentable. They need to make women drool, so working on my body is a step towards that.”
