I don’t feel restricted: Shahid

- Prashant Singh prashant.singh@hindustantimes.com

If I get any award, I’ll be jumping and be really happy, but if I don’t, I’m sure some other deserving actor will win. SHAHID KAPOOR, ACTOR

Over the past few years, Shahid Kapoor has experimented a lot with his roles. He doesn’t feel “limited or restricted”. “I feel I can do all kinds of roles and movies. I have seen some of the best actors internationally, as well as in India, jumping genres and dabbling with different things with a sense of excitement. When you see such people’s career graphs, you realise they have done everything, be it comedy or drama. So, the best of the best have always worked everywhere. That’s what makes them great,” he says.

GREAT GRAPH

The Haider (2014) actor adds that he sees “a lot of boys going through the same problem today”. “You keep saying that you are doing something different, but in reality, you are doing the same thing, because you are not getting an opportunity to do different stuff. But when you get that opportunity, it’s a great place to be in. You are able to create your own graph. If you get it right, people will realise that you can do everything,” says Shahid.

AWARDS SEASON

The awards season is underway. Ask Shahid, how much do awards matter to him, especially when his performance in Udta Punjab (2016), is being looked upon as the best, and he says, “I’d be lying if I said that I won’t feel good if somebody is giving me an award. I’d also be lying if I said that it is the most important thing in my life, or that I have no expectations, or I expect every award,” he says.

Shahid is “pleased” that he is being considered for delivering one of his best performances. “I know that it’s one of the best works of my life. I know that it is being spoken about and that’s great. If I get any award, I’ll be jumping and be really happy, but if I don’t, I’m sure some other deserving actor will win. I have moved beyond all of that,” he says.

The actor says he doesn’t want to make it “the central point” of his life. “It’s great that Rangoon comes next, and then there’s Padmavati. I don’t know what I’m going to do after that. I hope it’s something different,” he says.
