Kaabil is the most challenging role: Hrithik Roshan

-

Hrithik Roshan became a star overnight with his first film Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000), which was directed by his father Rakesh Roshan. Since then he has come a long way. He has also pushed the envelope with every role that he has attempted, and has raised the bar each time with the portrayal of different characters. In a career spanning 16 years, Hrithik has taken up several challenging roles in films such as Fiza (2000), Jodhaa Akbar (2008) and Agneepath (2012), among others.

KAABIL

In his latest movie, produced by the senior Roshan and directed by Sanjay Gupta, Hrithik plays the role of a visually impaired man. Talking about his experience of working on the film, Hrithik says the role is the toughest one he has played so far. “To play a blind man when you can see everything is tough. On set, I would need to keep my eyes blank, because my character is blind and yet I would see everything and everyone around. To stop myself from blinking or reacting to the people around without flinching was very tough. It’s a mind game and I had to train myself into believing that I was visually impaired,” says Hrithik. He further adds, “Shooting an entire film like that takes a lot out of an actor. I’m sure my co-star Yami Gautam also faced a similar challenge.”

KOI... MIL GAYA (2008)

Here, Hrithik played the role of a grown man with the brain of a child. He spent most of his time with children. Keeping him company in this outing was an alien, Jadoo. The fact that Hrithik pulled off this role without making it a caricature showed his prowess as an actor.

GUZAARISH (2010)

In this Sanjay Leela Bhansali outing, Hrithik played a quadriplegic. Bound to a chair, he emoted with his eyes that showed pain, anger and pathos. With the kind of role it was, few mainstream actors have attempted something so difficult.
