Anil dreams of building a film studio
Anil Kapoor has been part of the film industry for over three decades now. The actor, who has featured in innumerable films and won multiple awards, dreams of making a film studio “for the future generations”.
“I am grateful to Mehboob Khan, Guru Dutt, V Shantaram, Raj Kapoor and Aditya Chopra for building studios. Imagine, if these studios weren’t there, what would we have done? There would have been only one studio in Mumbai — Filmcity (Goregaon East),” Kapoor says.
The Slumdog Millionaire (2008) actor says he doesn’t have “the kind of money [required to build a studio]”. “But the day I do, I will also carry out something similar. I have anyway put all my money in films. A lot of other actors have loads of money. They, too, should build some kind of infrastructure (for the film industry), and buy one or two less bungalows (laughs). One might have property across the world, but one should also try and have a world-class studio for the future generations,” he says.
In 2014, talks about Kapoor building a film studio were rife. He says, “Yes, but I can’t invest so much at the moment. They (Hollywood studio owners) have all done it with their own money, and I also want to do it with my own resources. If I do it, I will be happy that Harsh’s (Harshvardhan Kapoor; son) children can also work in a good environment.”
The actor feels workwise, the world is a “stage for actors”. “We are very fortunate, especially due to the digital revolution that is happening across the world. Things are going to change in the next five years. There’s so much to look forward to for actors and content creators,” he says.
