I’m trying to do something different: Anushka

- Prashant Singh

She had a great 2016 with back-to-back hits and critically-acclaimed films such as Sultan and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, but Anushka

Sharma (right) admits that “a sense of insecurity” has been “festered in the industry” to keep competition between actors alive. However, the actor feels that she is on her own journey. “I feel I am trying to do something that I want to, and so I am following that path. I am making my own journey while taking some risks with my career, and fortunately, the risks are paying off. At the age of 25, I decided to become a producer [with NH10; 2015], so I am trying to do something different with my career,” says Anushka. Her next production venture, Phillauri, releases next month.

Although the actor has had a successful eight years in Bollywood, she still finds happiness in being able to play varied roles. “Yes, I have had a variety in roles, and my films showed my ability to work with different directors. That’s why [since they are different directors] the roles were also different. And these are the things that make me feel great. Anyway, you always want to do something that you feel like doing,” she says.

Anushka is also one of the few actors who has worked with all the three Khans — Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. “They are very secure people. And they have become what they have because of the kind of people they are. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008) was my first movie, but the kind of support that I got from Shah Rukh as a co-actor was unbelievable. For someone like him to be so helpful and kind shows how great a person he is,” she says. The actor will next be seen in Imtiaz Ali’s next opposite Shah Rukh.
