It’s been 15 years since Sanjay Gupta’s (above) Kaante (2002) — apparently inspired by Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs (1992) — hit theatres, but the heist thriller continues to make news even now. HT Café has learnt that the Bollywood film will be screened on April 12 and April 13 alongside Tarantino’s much-loved debut directorial, Reservoir Dogs, in West Hollywood (Los Angeles, USA).

“It has been 25 years since Tarantino directed his debut film. To mark the anniversary, a few screenings of Reservoir Dogs and his other films such as Pulp Fiction (1994), Kill Bill (2003, 2004) and The Hateful Eight (2015) have been organised in March and April. Kaante will also be showcased during the same set of screenings,” says an insider. The films will be screened at the New Beverly Theatre, which is owned by Tarantino.

Interestingly, Tarantino had himself approved of Kaante a few years ago in an interview. “I think it was fabulous… The best part is, you have Indian guys coming to the US and looting a US bank. How cool is that? I was truly honoured. And these guys are played by the legends of Bollywood,” the film-maker had said.

When we asked Gupta about the planned screening, he smiled and said, “Like many others, I have also always been a Tarantino fan. Plus, he has always been very generous with his praiseworthy words for Kaante. Now, with these screenings, I feel extremely honoured. I wish our [Indian] film-makers were also as large-hearted towards other film-makers.”
