Akshay’s latest ‘colourful’ outing
It was a lot of fun. I experienced a new way of playing Holi and also discovered a lot about such a traditional ritual. AKSHAY KUMAR, ACTOR
Back in 2005, he shook his leg to a chartbuster Holi song, ‘Do me a favour, let’s play Holi’ (from Waqt: The Race Against Time). And earlier this year, Akshay Kumar again had a tryst with the festival of colours, thanks to another hit Holi number, ‘Go pagal’ (from Jolly LLB 2). In the latest instance, we have learnt that Akshay has had another colourful experience on screen — albeit with a difference. His next release, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, will see him play the famous Lathmar Holi in a festive number that also features Bhumi Pednekar.
The elaborate song was shot in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. “From ‘Holi ke din’ (Sholay; 1975) to ‘Rang barse’ (Silsila; 1981), we have seen a variety of Holi songs in Bollywood till now. So, when the makers of the movie were thinking of putting in a festive song, they wanted a completely different sound and feel,” says an insider.
And when the creative team learnt of Lathmar Holi, they immediately decided to go ahead with it since it also gels well with the world that the film is set in. On this, Akshay says, “It was a lot of fun. I experienced a new way of playing Holi and also discovered a lot about such a traditional ritual. So, it was a learning experience for me.”
