‘A part of my heart is still in Delhi’

Shahid Kapoor’s wife, Mira Rajput Kapoor says the national capital has a ‘pumping heartbeat’ while Mumbai is a ‘very chilled out city’

In 2015, both Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput Kapoor started a new chapter in their lives when they got married to each other. For Mira, the nuptials also meant shifting to a new city, Mumbai. Even two years post marriage, Mira admits that she still misses Delhi. “Of course, I do. After all, that’s the city where I grew up. All the memories of my childhood are from Delhi,” she says. Since all her friends, family and sister are in Delhi, Mira admits that “a part of her heart is definitely in Delhi.” “Maybe, that’s why I miss it a lot; and I also know everything about the city. Today, even if I want to get a small thing in Mumbai, I’ve to ask around. It has been two years since I have been living here, but I still ask my friends, ‘where can I get that or this from?’ she says. But if in Delhi, Mira says she would get to know things “in a second.” She adds: “I know very well where I will get a certain thing in Delhi. So, I definitely miss it in every possible way (smiles). I really feel that Delhi has a pumping and thumping heartbeat. But at the same time, I love Mumbai for being a very chilled out city.”

Ever since Mira moved to Mumbai, one thing that has surely changed is the media attention around her. “Not just me, I think everyone — including the actors — sometimes feel that it’s an invasion of privacy. It’s just that they are just more adept in dealing with it,” says Mira, adding that she isn’t “used to people coming so close and clicking pictures.” She adds, “Now, I think I am slowly getting more accustomed to it because I have to.”

Is it true that she has complained about too much media attention to Shahid? “How long can I stay away from all of it and not come to terms with that. I don’t think I ever complained. I guess I was just sharing my feelings about something that’s so new for me because there’re so many eyes and lenses on me all the time,” she says.

In fact, Mira admits that when she reads something about herself or if people say certain things visà-vis her, it bothers her “even if it’s not true”. She says, “After all, I haven’t been doing this for many years (laughs). Also, they say that, ‘a picture speaks a thousand words’ but a picture can also create a thousand stories.”

MIRA ADMITS THAT WHEN SHE READS SOMETHING ABOUT HERSELF OR IF PEOPLE SAY CERTAIN THINGS VIS-À-VIS HER, IT BOTHERS HER “EVEN IF IT’S NOT TRUE”.
