A new track to bring in the New Year
Kaalakaandi has created quite a stir among the audience with the recent launch of its trailer. The thrilling dark comedy’s first song, Swagpur ka Chaudhary, will be out today. It is a breakbeat-meets-funk rock track, with a quirky and psychedelic video featuring the entire star cast. The film stars Saif Ali Khan, Deepak Dobriyal, Vijay Raaz, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Sobhita Dhulipala, Akshay Oberoi, Isha Talwar, Shenaz Treasury, Shivam Patil, Amyra Dastur, and Neil Bhoopalam.
The filmmakers think that the song will be a New Year’s chartbuster with its “desi lyrics and angrezi music beats”. Swagpur ka Chaudhary has been sung and written by Akshay Verma, and composed by Sameer Uddin.
Akshat Verma, the director of Kaalakaandi, says, “The song really came about through the very unique talents of Akshay and Sameer. Akshay’s specific lyrics and vocals bring a certain attitude and authenticity to the song. Sam then took these lyrics and married them to a tune and a groove that were an entirely unexpected bed for these vocals. The lyrics make the song feel really rooted, but the composition and production open it up and make it feel more international.
Akshat adds, “What I find really exciting about this song is that something like this could only be an Indian rock song. Even in its newness, it couldn’t have originated from anywhere else.”
