I don’t see how two films can typecast me: Tahir

- Pooja Sharma

Tahir Raj Bhasin, who debuted in Bollywood with the Rani Mukerji-starrer Mardaani (2014), will next be en sharing the screen with Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the iod drama Manto. He says ing alongside Nawazuddin like he was “in an acting ool’. So was he intimidated at y point during the shoot? tarted t my career sharing frame with Rani Mukerji, so I think I crossed t (phase) long time ago. d to his or any other ior actor’s credit, the re comfortable you ke a co-actor feel, the ter the performances l be,” says the young

Does he fear being typecast considering he played negative characters in both Mardaani and Force 2 (2016)? “It was an amazing start. I think today, audiences are ready for themes that are out of the box and different. So it has been a conscious decision. I feel the transition will happen in the long run. I don’t see only two films being the reason behind me getting typecast. I love being part of a time where you can explore diverse roles, and the audience appreciates that,” he says.

However, Tahir is quite the opposite of the characters he has essayed on screen. “I am an ambivert. I can by shy as well as sarcastic. But, by shy, I mean in the romantic way not in an awkward way if that makes sense.” He adds that his female fan following is only due to his stark portrayals on-screen. “It’s funny when you don’t really expect girls to like such characters. But I think as the old saying goes, ‘Good girls like bad boys’. It’s so true, because that’s where majority of the fan following comes from. And they don’t want to see me play chocolate-boy roles. They like the grungy chap, who breaks the rules,” says Tahir.

Ask him about the directors he would like to collaborate with in the future and he says, “The list is long and there are a lot of them. Vishal Bhardwaj, Homi Adajania and Karan Johar are on top of my list.”
