Irrfan celebrates his birthday with artisans

- Kavita Awasthi

Irrfan recently celebrated his birthday by helping out the artisan community in India. The actor was a part of the National Symposium on The Handmade in Delhi urging people to indulge in using products made by local craftsmen.

A source from the event says, “The industry is currently suffering and this event was a huge support to help their voice being heard. Irrfan has also been voicing his opinion on GST exemption for artisans, and the actor took great pleasure in spending his birthday with them.”

Irrfan says, “I’ve always been vocal about extending support to our local artisan communities because I strongly believe they require people like us to help them stand up for their rights. At the Symposium, I spent a lot of time understanding their problems and discussing ways to work around with them and a lot of personalities who work tirelessly for their welfare. The awareness about the tax implications on our artisans is the most important thing right now. I can count this as one of my best and productive birthdays.”

Earlier Irrfan had even urged the government to make natural foods “zerotaxed”. He spoke about handmade products and producers of natural foods being taxed heavily by the government and was part of the movement called Tax Denial Satyagraha, where handmade industries have asked the government to take them under zero tax category to bring justice to the industry.
