‘I’m yet to be offered something different’
Radhika Apte has been known for love for experimenting and exploring different film genres, but her last release, the blockbuster Pad Man, is proof that she knows how important it is to be a part of mainstream films as well. In fact, the actor feels that it is downright essential for actors to be a part of projects that work commercially. The actor says, “Unless you have commercial viability, the films that you really want to do, the smaller films, will not get greenlit. You need to have commercial viability as an actor today.”
A hit film usually translates into film offers, but Radhika, who is currently working on a Hollywood project, says she is yet to be offered anything that is drastically different. “I don’t think my image has changed drastically. I have Bazaar and Sriram Raghavan’s film to finish, so I am not sure. I am yet to be offered something very different. I’m waiting to see what comes my way,” she says.
Radhika has always aired her opinions on issues, and she has often highlighted pay disparities in Bollywood and Hollywood. However, she says that this is a bigger issue that needs to be addressed. “I have spoken so much about it already, and it’s a bigger issue than what we talk about and are discussing. But there are definitely many other disparities in the industry that we as actors need to tackle. I think the pay disparity among A-listers is a very small issue. The real pay disparity exists with a lot of character artists, because with A-listers, a lot depends on how much you can make at the box office.”
