Travel feeds our soul: Shefali

- anjali.shetty@htlive.com

For actor Shefali Zariwala and her husband Parag Tyagi, travelling is all about enjoying the moment and exploring. Shefali says, “Travel feeds our soul. Every time we have a few days off, we travel. Most times it is planned but we love taking off impromptu as well.”

Bali was their latest holiday together and she says that it was an unplanned trip. Parag’s work got cancelled and Shefali was free too. So, they decided to go to Bali since they offered visa on arrival. “We booked our tickets and we were off two days later. We stayed there for two weeks and it was pure bliss. It is one of the most beautiful islands.”

She adds that the place offers everything, right from surfing and partying to scuba diving and jungle adventuring. “The beaches are the biggest highlight, we enjoyed the sunsets the most. Also, one can witness interesting things such as active volcanos, hidden waterfalls and rice paddies.”

Shefali shares that they enjoyed the local cuisine, consisting of items such as gado gado (vegetables cooked in a peanut sauce) and nasi goreng (fried rice). “We used to order dishes in bungkus or takeout style, where the food is wrapped in a banana leaf and eaten by hand. We had an amazing experience eating at a restaurant called Teracotta, which was in the middle of a rice paddy, in Ubud. Also the fruits available in Bali are fruits we had never heard of. Parag was obsessed w snake fruit, an odd little fruit with a scaly exterior that looks like snakeskin and has a crunchy interior. It tastes like a cross between a pear and a lychee.”

TOP 5 MUST DOS WHILE AT BALI

■ Waterfalls: Gitgit waterfall was our favourite. It is situated in a thick rain forest. By far the most

rfall we have seen in Bali.

■ Tegallalang Rice terraces. It is a picture perfect sight.

■ Temples like Uluwatu. Must visit in the evening to catch the majestic sunset.

■ Get a massage.

■ Ofcourse, the beaches. Bali is full of glorious beaches. Exploring the cave under Uluwatu Beach was a delight.
