A show that brings back the magic of the ’90s
Long gone are the days when cordless phones, water coolers and wrestling trump cards would epitomise happiness and life in Indian cities. But with the new show Yeh Meri Family by the digital streaming platform The Viral Fever (TVF), in association with Association of Mutual Funds of India, viewers are set to be transported back to the days of yore and to feel the joy of living in simpler times.
Featuring actor Mona Singh in the role of a strict mother, Akarsh Khurana as the father — an insurance agent that doesn’t just dole out investment gyaan, but, funnily enough, even cares for the investors — and the three siblings, Dabbu (Ahaan Nirban), Harshu (Vishesh Bansal), Chitti (Ruhi Khan) along with Harshu’s know-itall friend Shanky (Prasad Reddy), Yeh Meri Family is a complete family entertainer.
Told from the perspective of 12-year-old Harshu, the show depicts the hilarious partnership between a lenient father and a strict mother, which keeps the house in order. While references to the ’90s take you back in time, a common strand that runs through the show, the bond in the family and its members, has always been timeless.
According to Sameer Saxena, chief creative officer and head, TVF Originals, also its director, the show has been getting a good response, so far. “We spent years bringing this show to life, perfecting it, and the love being showered by the viewers is a proof of it all. First love, summer vacations, sibling rivalry and that latenight secret TV watching — Yeh Meri Family has it all. We started streaming the first two episodes initially, but the overwhelming response made us release the remaining episodes together immediately after, on TVFPlay,” he says.
