‘Masala King’ makes it big in UAE
Chairman and managing director, Al Adil Trading, Dhananjay (Jay) Datar was recently ranked 18 on the list of the richest Indians in the UAE in 2018, by Arabian Business. In two years his position has seen a meteoric rise as in 2017, he was on the 19th position and in 2016, he ranked 39th. Speaking on the occasion, Datar, popularly known as the ‘Masala King’ says, “It is a great honour to be recognised by Arabian Business, which is one of the most credible media houses in the world, that recognises our passion and contribution to the advancement of the Arab region.” Dhananjay explains, “Honour and recognition add more responsibility to what we do. I believe that we will strive to provide enhanced value to our customers in a socially responsible manner. It is also a reflection of the dedicated team effort of our entire organisation. I wish to thank the rulers of this country who support and encourage us in our endeavours. It is evident from the fact that a majority of the top leaders and business owners are based in UAE, which is a reflection of the support that we get from the country.” Today his group encompass a chain of 40 super markets spread across Gulf countries, two spice factories, two flour mills and an import-export company. The rulers of UAE felicitated Dhananjay with a prestigious award and the title Masala King, for his contribution to the business sector. His name was included in Forbes Middle East magazine’s list of Top 100 Indian Businessmen in Arab World. Al Adil Trading group under the leadership of Dhananjay claims to have brought in more than 9000 Indian products to UAE. The group also claims to produces more than 700 products within categories like readymade flours, spices, pickles and jams, under its own brand, Peacock.
