It’s quite overwhelming these days. I don’t realise whether it’s day or night,” says an ecstatic, but a tired Saumya Tandon, who recently gave birth to a boy. As she speaks to us, we can hear him crying in the background while Saumya tries to calm him down.

She reveals that it all happened too fast. “The process was quite overwhelming and I had a tough time as I was working, too. It’s been some time. My family and I didn’t want anyone outside the hospital to know and we didn’t want that attention. We decided we will announce it only when we get home,” she says. “When I was in the hospital, too much was happening around me. I had just gone for a regular checkup and then I had to be rushed [into labour], as the doctor said,”adds the Jab We Met (2007) actor.

Asked if she has decided on a name for the baby yet, she says that they have come up with an innovative solution. “We haven’t chosen anything yet. I am planning to take help from social media. I will ask everyone what should be the name of my son because we haven’t been able to (zero in on one). My husband keeps coming up with these crazy geeky names and I keep shooting them down. My mother and sister also keep sending me lists… I will run a nice, small contest, and ask all of my fans [to decide on one],” says the actor.

Saumya also made a lot of efforts to deal with the changes that a woman’s body undergoes during pregnancy. Telling us about it, she says, “He gets up every two hours and I have to breastfeed him. I get exhausted, but I have started stretching and physio. I didn’t have to struggle with my weight as I was practising yoga. Thankfully, I didn’t gain weight. I worked on my muscles and stomach and did breathing exercises so that my muscles didn’t get tight. Hats off to women who have kids, take care of home and step out for work as well.”
