PATRALEKHAA IS LEARNING KANNADA
Patralekhaa, who made an unconventional debut with Hansal Mehta’s CityLights (2014) alongside Rajkummar Rao is set to make her Kannada debut. Directed by Raaj and Damini Shetty, the untitled movie will see her sharing screen space with Kannada superstar Ganesh. The actor, who is quite excited to start work on the project, has already begun prepping for her role and has started learning Kannada too. A source informs, “In order to make her character look and sound relatable, Patralekhaa has started learning Kannada and working on her dialect. She has been working closely with a special tutor to master the language and get an intricate understanding of it. She
practises the language for two hours every alternate day so that the dialect and diction sounds natural and real. She has been watching Kannada films as well.”
Talking about learning a new language, Patralekhaa says, “I like watching films of different languages, especially South Indian films, which are high on content and have interesting subjects. As an actor, it is extremely important to achieve cinematic realism and for that, you need to get your act right. Though Kannada is quite a difficult language, it’s going to be an interesting, learning process. When I got this film, Raaj sir, the director, was clear that I should learn the dialect. I am excited for this film because it’s a completely different space that I am entering. And I am sure it’s going to be an exciting journey.”
In fact, she goes on to reveal that some of her closest friends are from Bangalore. “I completed my junior college in Bangalore from Bishop Cotton Girls’ School. My closest friends speak Kannada. I just wish I had made an effort to learn the language back then,” she says.
