Only three years and three films old in Bollywood, Disha Patani is already known for her wise choices — be it MS Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016), Baaghi 2 (2018), and now Bharat — which spell success at the box office every time. “I’m not from the industry. I don’t have anyone backing me. So I’ve to be very careful about the parts I do. Also, it’s either a strong ‘yes’ or a definite ‘no’ for me. If I like it, I do it,” shares Disha, who is shooting for her next film, Malang, also starring Aditya Roy Kapur, Anil Kapoor and Kunal Kemmu.

Besides, enjoying the process of making a particular movie itself is an important factor which influences Disha’s decision when she is considering a project. “After all, we spend around six months on a particular film’s set. We work so hard, we don’t get to sleep or eat, it is difficult. So we better enjoy the whole experience and be confident about the product that we are

creating,” she says.

While she has proved herself as an actor, the industry is a highly competitive one and good roles are often difficult to come by for female actors. So does she think certain roles are only meant for certain actors? “All I can say is that you have to keep working and showing people your potential, what you can do. But one thing I know is that I don’t want to be put in a box and given specific types of roles,” says the actor, adding she would like to “explore and do as many different roles as possible”.

She goes on to add, “I’ve done three films and all the characters have been very different from one another. With each film, I want to connect to a different kind of audience.”

Interestingly, Disha doesn’t worry much about how filmmakers perceive her as an actor. “It depends on what producers and directors are looking for. When I was approached for Bharat, Ali (Abbas Zafar; director) sir saw my videos on Instagram doing some basic stuff and he thought I was right for the role,” she says.

Also, one can’t help but notice that Disha enjoys a great fan following online. “I dedicate all my posts to all girls. I hope they get inspired and get something out of it. I just want them to be happy and brave,” she adds.
