My friends used to call me ‘Hanger’: Mrunal

- Pooja Sharma

Being a skinny boy was quite tormenting for actor Mrunal Jain, who remembers how he would be teased by his friends. However, the actor says that once he was fit, his confidence soared. “I was a skinny guy weighing 47 kgs and used to be called ‘hanger’ by my friends. I gained confidence after I worked on building a good physique and was fit,” says Mrunal, adding, “I used to feel low as a teenager and would get mocked in school. Now, people care about fitness irrespective of their profession. In 2002, I took a stand after being bullied and it took me seven years to gain muscle.”

The actor adds that people don’t know the back story and are quick to judge. “They talk behind my back that I took steroids, but I don’t care. I’ve worked hard to become the person I am today,” says Mrunal. He feels that fitness helps health wise and with work too. “Looks and physique draw attention irrespective of the nature of your profession. Your confidence surely gets a boost when you feel good about yourself. Your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other thing,” says the actor.

Now, Mrunal has become a fitness enthusiast and is quite conscious of his regimen. “It took me 10 years to be where I am. My discipline and patience paid off. I never imagined that I would be giving fitness tips to my friends,” he quips, adding that he has accomplished this with a vegetarian diet. “Ten years back, people had this myth that vegetarian food cannot help you build a good body. But, there are a lot of vegetarian products which are rich in nutrients. Being a vegetarian is a way of life for me and I am not missing out on anything if I am a vegetarian,” says the actor.
